Ebonyi: NANS To Protest on Tuesday 20th October – ASUU: The leadership of national association of Nigerian students (NANS) Ebonyi state chapter, has issued a press notification on it’s planned peaceful demostration over the prolonged industrial Action by the academic staff union of Universities (Asuu) in the country, slated for Tuesday 20th October 2020.
The notification, which was addresed to the Ebonyi state Commissioner of police, Cp Philip maku, was signed by the south east and south south director of special duties, (NANs zone B), Comrade Nwuruku Olisa Alfred,
who stated that the peaceful rally which is to commence from the main gate of CAS campus Ebonyi State University, is aimed at making demands on the federal government of Nigeria to renegotiate with members of Asuu,
towards a possible adjustment of the decisions that has led to the halt in academic activities in institution of higher education in the country for over seven months, which has negatively affected the Nigerian students,
Ebonyi NANS To Protest ASUU
The notification reads in part,
“I write to respectfully inform that the National association of Nigerian students (NANS) will hold a peaceful demostration on Tuesday 20th October, 2020,
“to demand for renegotiations between the federal government and the Academic staff Union of universities (Asuu) over the lingered 7months old industrial Action and possible adjustment on some gruesome and unfavorable decisions taken against students in the country.”
The notification , which further places demands on the federal government of Nigeria “to call off Assu strike with immediate effect, also called on the federal government
“to provide paliatives for students as they return to school, to grant school and hostel fee waivers to students”,
as well as to call off all warning strikes by none academic staffs of Nigerian universities.
“.. .a rally of placard carrying demonstration has become a form of expression of
views on current issues affecting government and the governed in a sovereign state.
It is a trend recognind and deeply entrenched in the system of Wvernance in
civilized countries — it will not only be primitive but also retrogressive if Nigeria
continues to require a pass to hold a rally. We must borrow a leaf from those who
have trekked the rugged path of democracy and are now reaping the dividend of
